Hey UBCTC athletes. Looks like summer has started. There are no more excuses not to push yourself that extra mile! If you are around this summer, organize something with others who are here also. It is really simple to organize impromptu swims, runs, and rides via our Facebook page.
If that isn't enough, a core group of people are still going to host UBCTC runs mondays and wednesdays at 5:30pm as usual. There are also unofficial swims during the mornings from 7:30am to 8:45am and the OUTDOOR POOL opens MAY 15. Mark that on your calendars everyone. It's time to get that speedo tan back. Guys this means nice crotch triangles and ladies who doesn't love a good strap tan across the back.
If there are any questions regarding the run workouts or any other athletic related inquiries, please email our VP athletic Brendan Naef at bnaef@interchange.ubc.ca
The first race of the season, the UBC Triathlon and Duathlon, took place on March 11th and the UBC Triathlon Club had over 30 members racing! Our members have been training hard all year and we saw quite a few top 3 age group finishes in the Sprint, Duathlon and Olympic distance races. We were also able to race in our spiffy looking new triathlon suits which were purchased with support from the UBC AMS as well as the support of our sponsors: West Point Multisport, The Run Inn, Dunbar Physio and Clif Bar.
Sun Run Team

The club buy night has been confirmed as Wednesday, February 1st at 6:30pm.

- Run on the 1st will be from the office to The Run Inn (~9km). Monday the 29th will be our speed workout for the week.
- Brendan and the Lemon Party have been requested for the transport of everyone's belongings from UBC to The Run Inn, so no one should have to return to the office to retreive their stuff afterwords.

- Everything in the store will be 20% off.
- If you, or anyone else has a specific request, give The Run Inn a call, preferably before the 25th of January

Spinning
We still have some space in our spin classes on Wednesday mornings from 7am - 8:30 am at West Point Multisport. If you aren't able to commit to the remaining 9 sessions, then we will offer a first come, first served drop in. Please show up with $10 to participate in the workout. You can email me in advance to secure a spot if you like.
UBC Triathlon
Please note that early registration for the UBC Triathlon ends on January 30th and the price goes up a bit. Make sure you register for the first race of the season!
This year, the UBC TC is having some input into the race. We've given the organizers a bunch of feedback about the race and we will be helping to accurately measure the run and bike routes. We will also be leading two pre-race seminars, one on nutrition and the other on race-day tips/transitions. If there is anything else that has bugged you about this race in the past, please let us know and we'll see if we can't work with UBC Rec to find a solution.
Regular Workouts Resume
After all the partying and holiday indulging, we all need to get back into out regular exercise routines. Good thing you're part of the UBC TC! The first regular run back will be tomorrow (January 4th) at 5:30. Jenn will be leading a long easy run (9km) so that we can get in some base training on the first group run back. If people are itching for an interval workout, we might have an option for that as well, but we'll play it by ear.
Swimming resumes on Thursday January 5th at 8pm and will follow the regular schedule from then.
There will also be a club ride on Saturday at 9am.
Swim Fees
Just a reminder that swimming is paid on a per-term basis, so you will be required to pay again for this term in you are interested in swimming. Swim fees are $75/$110/$130 for 1/2/3 times per week, respectively.
This term we will also have the option of adding in some more swimming if you are so inclined. The UBC Dolphins Masters swim club has extended an offer for our club members to join in with their swims at a discounted rate of 25% off. They swim on Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 7-8pm. Their fees are approximately $260/$210/$150 for 3/2/1 swims/week. They run a 12 week swim program in the winter session from January 9th - March 30th and will have spring and summer options as well. Let me know if you'd like more details and I can set you up with their coaches.
Cycling Kits and Tri Suits
I know it might feel like we've been talking about these forever and we haven't had any action on them, but we are getting very close! The kits are almost finished being designed and we have been able to work out fees for the kits based on the money that we've received from our sponsors West Point Multisport, Clif Bar, Dunbar Physio, and The Run Inn.
Cycling kits will be about $120
Tri Suits will be about $35
The deadline to get your order in will be next Tuesday January 10th and you will be required to put down a deposit for your order, $60 for cycling kits and $20 for tri suits.
We also have the ability to order extra items such as additional jerseys or shorts and hats. Please talk to an exec if you are interested.
Sugoi Arm and Leg Warmers
We still have a bunch of arm and leg warmers left and we'd really like to sell them to our club members!
Arm warmers are $25
Leg warmers are $35
If you would like to buy them, please do so in the very near future as they may not be available forever!
The Run Inn buy night
As part of our sponsorship with The Run Inn, we will be having a club "buy night" where we will get exclusive deals and 20% off pretty much everything. This will be happening in mid-January. We will organize it such that we end up at The Run Inn after one of our club runs and we will have all of our gear transported there. The club will also provide some post run snacks for all those who come out. Stay tuned for more details.
Spinning
As part of our sponsorship with West Point Multisport, we will be organizing spinning at their store. The spin sessions will consist of a 10 week program at a cost of $10/session, for a total of $100. Spinning will be held on either Tuesday or Thursday mornings before work/school. West Point will provide the trainers and we will provide our own bikes. We will begin signups in the very near future once we have a start date finalized.
